Happy Pink Saturday! I am so glad to be back. Are you wishing for a beautiful Valentine’s Day bouquet of roses? We all love roses don’t we? But did you know that the rose became the most popular Valentine’s Day flower way back in the 17th century?
Have you ever thought about preserving these very meaningful roses…forevermore? You might actually want to use them in your craft projects later…Perhaps in a memorable piece? Today I want to share with you a simple tutorial to preserve them right at home.
MATERIALS:
Silica Gel {available at your craft store or florist}
Your Valentine's Bouquet {rose buds and roses}
Airtight food container {about 3 1/4 deep}
Scissors
INSTRUCTIONS:
1- Choose the best buds and roses from your Valentine's Day bouquet.
2- Using your scissors trim your flowers stems leaving about 1 1/2".3- Select an Airtight food container . A see through container would be ideal.
4- Pour some Silica Gel in the bottom, about 2".
TIP: This will make easier for you to manipulate them and also remove them from the container once they are dried.
5- Start placing your buds and roses vertically in the plastic tight lid container.
TIP: Sit your buds and flowers vertically deep in the Silica Gel.
6- Leave enough space in between flowers. The amount will depend on the size of your container.
7- Pour enough Silica Gel around and on top to cover all your flowers. Check the images above.
8- Seal your plastic container with the lid and place it in a safe place. Away from direct light.
9- Let your flowers dry in the Silica Gel for about a week. If your flowers are big let them dry for about 10 days.
TIP: Do not open the Airtight food container to check on your flowers before the time. Be patient!
10- Once your flowers are dry open the lid of your container.
11- Carefully dust off the Silica Gel from your flowers using your fingers just to uncover the tops.
12- Dig them out.
13- Slightly shake them off to remove the Silica Gel.
14- Place them in a Airtight food container . Ideally see through.
TIP: Organize your flowers by colours and sizes to use in your craft projects. And keep it only to use with your preserved flowers.
Your buds and flowers are ready! There are so many uses for them, too many...Come back next Pink Saturday, February 12th for another tutorial...I will teach you how to make a very, very romantic project using preserved roses. You won't want to miss it!

Great tip! Happy Pink Saturday!
Thank you for the instructions. I tend to be lazy and dry my roses upside down on a rack. Only problem with that is the color change when they dry. I will keep this for reference. It does seem so simple, except the waiting, lol, don't know why I keep doing it the other way.
Happy Pink Saturday Gabriela Sweetie...
Oh what beautiful roses and what a gorgeous share. I can't wait to give this recipe a try. I have had many roses that I would have so loved to preserve. Then I would still have them today.
Thank you for this creative share today. It always tickles me pink when I get a new heads up on something. Isn't it wonderful to share?

Thanks for sharing these tips. I appreciate your nice comment on my blog today. Best wishes, Lynn
What an intriguing project! I'll have to let me senior mom know about that. We have no roses in our gardening projects this past year, but are hoping to add a plant or two in the upcoming year. Might be fun to try this. Thank you for the directions! :)

Hi Gabriela,
Oh am glad that you are having a Happy Pink Saturday. I love this post because my favorite thing to do is save my roses. Once I saved a HUGE basket of roses in Hong Kong, four years worth. But sadly when I moved I couldn't take them with me. So, I painted a painting of the basket and gave it to my neighbor. She in turn gave me five strands of pearls that she had strung.
Your tutorial is wonderful. You are my Pink Saturday mention next week.
Happy Pink Saturday,
karen
