How to design a Toronto Girl Tee. Celebrate the city you live!

Happy Pink Saturday! I hope you had a great Holiday Season. Today I am sharing my first 2012 tutorial with you and it's a fashion art one. Glitter is one of my most favorite craft embellishments and I have used it {fabric glitter} in many wearable projects.

I have discovered Tulip® Fashion Glitter™ Shimmer Transfer Sheets and I am totally in love with them! Designing a Logo Tee was on my list for the longest time and these sheets seemed perfect for this project. They are so easy to use, you can draw on the back and cut them with scissors. Let's get to the Toronto Girl Tee tutorial!

MATERIALS:

Black Tee {mine is cotton}
Tulip® Fashion Glitter™ Shimmer Transfer Sheets
Tulip® 3D Fashion Paint {white}
Tulip® Fashion Glitter™ {gold fine crystal}
Tulip® Glam-It-Up!™ Iron-On Crystals™
Tulip® Cordless Heat Setting Tool™
Paper Scissors
Iron
Cloth
Pen
Craft Brush
Digital Camera
Computer - Microsoft Word
Photo
Paper

INSTRUCTIONS:

1- Wash your tee without using softener. It is required in order to paint on it. You will!

2- I used a photo {not my best one but it will be useful anyway!} of the CN Tower, Skydome, buildings and highway barriers I took from the car in the highway.
3- Using Microsoft Word {part of your Microsoft Office} I transfer the photo from my digital camera to it and printed it on paper.
4- Using paper scissors I cut out the CN Tower, Skydome buildings and highway barriers.
5- Then transfer them onto the Tulip® Fashion Glitter™ Shimmer Transfer Sheets.

TIP: Transfer them to the back {non shinny} of your Tulip® Fashion Glitter™ Shimmer Transfer Sheets and draw them "in reverse". Why? Because you need the image to look just as it shows on your photo and showing this same way on the glittered side of the sheets.

3- I did a logo to honor the city I live in which is Toronto, T.O. but you can honor your own.
4- To make the lettering I used the Microsoft Office I have in my computer.
5- I then selected Microsoft Word.
6- I opened a new document and typed the words T.O. and Love. You can use any font you like.

NOTE: Fonts I used: "Vladimir Script" for the word Love and "Stencil" for the word T.O.

7- Saved my document and printed them on paper.
8- To transfer them on the Tulip® Fashion Glitter™ Shimmer Transfer Sheets I used the light coming through my windows and worked right on the glass. Not too technical, huh?
9- Using paper scissors I cut them out.
10- You now have your new transfers ready to apply to your tee!

TIP: I made the very think transfers you see on the buildings using left over parts. Do not waste!

11- The layout is very important as you need your new tee design to be not only balanced but appealing. You want a professional look!
12- Try different layouts and choose the one you like the most.

13- Now it's time to design and apply your new Tulip® Fashion Glitter™ Shimmer Transfer Sheets to your tee.
14-  Peel off your transfers and put your design together using one at a time.
15- Place them on each section of your tee following your layout design.Using a cloth flatten them up slightly.
16- Heat your iron to fabric setting and iron your transfer pieces in place onto the tee following your layout design.
17- Pressing firmly for about 40 seconds.
18- Check and make sure the whole image was transferred to the tee. Repeat step 17 if necessary.

19- It is now time to finish up your tee and bedazzle it with beautiful Tulip® Glam-It-Up!™ Iron-On Crystals™. I chose Aqua and Amethyst colours.
20- Apply them one by one using tweezers and the Tulip® Cordless Heat Setting Tool™.
21- Did you notice? I added a few to the Love logo!

I felt about painting on fabric and added an extra building!

22- Using Tulip® 3D Fashion Paint {white} right from the bottle. I love the fact that it has a nozzle and it is easier to control the amount of paint I want to apply.
23- Draw your new building and fill with your craft brush.
24- Let dry completely.
25- Bedazzle it and follow steps 20 & 21.

Your new Toronto Girl Tee is finished and ready to wear. Enjoy it!

What a great tutorial, Gabriela! I have only used the sheets that you put in your printer and make a design transfer with them....ironing them onto your t-shirt. I love the products you used for this project and really enjoyed learning about just how you created your shirt!

HPS!!!

what a treat tutorial Gabriela. Ha! My little town (no town) has no skyline so it would be out of the question. Maybe I could make a Vintage Nest t-shirt. HPS It's really cold cold cold here today. I think winter has arrived.

What a fabulous tutorial, Gabriela! Thank you so much. I love the idea of glitter transfer sheets and next time I am out I hope I will find that Hobby Lobby has them...I wonder how the silhouettes would look with glitter? Well, I am going to find out!
Thank You again!
HPS with a hug!

I love the tee, and your tutorial sounds easy peasy. You have a great city, my hubby and I visited there in 1985.
I am bookmarking this post. I would love to make some tees for my grandson. Great indoor project for these cold days of winter.
Happy Pink Saturday

Loved this post, Gab.....really informative.
If one had to buy ALL the required things to make a tee, would it be pretty expensive?
Your shirt really turned out cute.

STUPENDOUS idea, Gabriela! But then, you always always have great ideas - and I especially love that you find products I hadn't even heard of. So I can try them too. I'm so sick of boring Tshirts, and this seems really do-able.

Hugs and Happy Pink Saturday!
